My life so far...
Born and raised in the intense heat of the Tucson, AZ sun, Lucy Schuh was not fearful of the harsh rays of the stage lights until she stepped out under them
at the age of three. Years of dance lessons and a few tries at musical theatre later, she became an active member of her high school drama program. Her first encounter with stage management can be traced to her role as "stage manager" for student written and directed one acts her senior year. The power, the chaos, and the problem-solving were exciting and new experiences in her theatrical career.
Once she found her footing in Northern Arizona University's theatre program, the entire world of backstage theatre was opened and new. Through explorations in lighting design, house managing, program design, and acting, Lucy was eventually approached and encouraged by a professor to try assistant stage managing. With no experience, and little knowledge of what a stage manager was, Lucy embraced the role of ASM on NAU Department of Theatre's 2010 production of Equus. This was it; a mix of stress, responsiblity, organization, and multitasking combined with her favorite pasttime (communication). Lucy continued to pursue stage management in student productions and was granted a stage manager position on departmental productions in her junior and senior year.
Lucy has since graduated and moved to Chicago, navigating an enitrely new landscape. Greeted by the many opportunities a community like Chicago has to offer, she in several storefront companies, learning more about herself as a manager and about the industry in those first twelve months than she could have ever predicted. When opportunity once again came knocking, she accepted a position as the 2014-2015 Floor Manager with Court Theatre, finally experiencing what a stable seasonal position could be. It is with the support and confidence of this year with Court that she moves forward once again into the busy nexus of Chicago theatre to push herself yet again.
In her limited spare time, Lucy enjoys baking, most recently exploring gluten-free options for friends. She is also prone to singing made-up songs about the work at hand to help pass the time. She loves a good musical as much as an action film and is always up for a game of Bananagrams.
She hopes to continue experiencing more of the greatly collaborative creative process between brilliant artists which live performance breeds, as well as developing herself into a better manager. Chicago is still home base for now, but the call from the coasts is beginning to develop.
